Need something to get you through the cold, slow month of January? A good friend of mine sent me an article listing celebrations for each day of the month—everything from Bubble Bath Day to Dress Your Pet Day—and I thought, How fun would that be? So we did some research and found something for you to celebrate every day for the remainder of January. Want a great way to begin 2013? Rejoice in the little things. And don’t forget the jewelry, of course.
Jan. 4: Trivia Day
Rahaminov diamond halo pendant
Be sure to wear something sparkly to distract the other contestants in the trivia contest. You got this!
Jan. 5: National Bird Day
Show some love to our feathered friends with Oliver Weber’s Birdy ring.
Jan. 6: Cuddle Up Day
Sterling Forest teddy bear bypass bangle
Baby, it’s cold outside, so snuggle up to someone (or something) special. What’s cuddlier than a teddy bear?
Jan. 7: Old Rock Day
Margery Hirschey bezel-set diamond ring
It’s the day to appreciate old rocks and fossils. Diamonds count, right?
Jan. 8: Bubble Bath Day
Arzy Company Zigzag Bubble earrings
It’s the greatest day of the year. Celebrate with some bubbly and wear your effervescent-style jewels.
Jan. 9: Balloon Ascension Day
Legere agate balloon brooch
I’m not sure how many of us are going to go out in hot air balloons, but we can certainly sport them on our necks or lapels.
Jan. 10: Houseplant Appreciation Day
Kit Heath sterling leaf cuff
I’ve never had any luck with houseplants, but I’m guessing you show your appreciation by watering them? I’d settle for wearing jewels with a leafy motif.
Jan. 11: Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friends Day
Deakin & Francis Wellies cufflinks
One of my favorite things to do. Grab your rain boots!
Jan. 12: National Pharmacist Day
Royi Sal apple charm
It’s flu season, so chances are your local pharmacy is buzzing. Thank your pharmacist by staying healthy: An apple a day keeps the doctor away!
Jan. 13: Make Your Dream Come True Day
Nina Nguyen Bedford druzy ring
All you need is faith, trust, and a little…sparkle. I’m pretty sure Peter Pan said something along those lines. Now get out there and make something happen!
Jan. 14: Dress Up Your Pet Day
Zinzi pearl necklace
What cat or dog wouldn’t look good in pearls? Exhibit A.
Jan. 15: National Hat Day
Jye Luxury diamond flower brooch
Want to make your hat stand out from the rest? Adorn it with a brooch!
Jan. 16: Appreciate a Dragon Day
Rotenier dragon cufflinks
The best way I can think to show your appreciation for dragons is to wear one. And watch How to Train Your Dragon, because it’s a good movie.
Jan. 17: Ditch Your New Year’s Resolutions Day
Canadia Diamonds stud earrings
Made it this far? Impressive. While I have no plans to ditch my resolutions, I do think everyone deserves one day to be footloose and fancy-free. And by that I mean shop for diamonds.
Jan. 18: Winnie the Pooh Day
Chamilia blue Disney bracelet
Today is the day that Winnie the Pooh author A.A. Milne was born. Celebrate by adorning everyone’s favorite silly old bear.
Jan. 19: National Popcorn Day
A&Z Pearls Tin Cup necklace
Wear your pearls to the movie theater; just keep them away from the buttery popcorn.
Jan. 20: Inauguration Day
Oscar Heyman American flag brooch
Although the public ceremony will take place on Jan. 21 this year, the official Inauguration Day is Jan. 20. Show your pride with this flag brooch from Oscar Heyman.
Jan. 21: National Hugging Day
Silver Stars Collection peace and love necklace
It’s also Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. Give a gift of jewelry for either celebration, get a hug. Win-win!
Jan. 22: Answer Your Cat’s Question Day
Shah Diamonds cat pendant
I’m not exactly sure what this one means. I like cats, I have two, and I’d be happy to answer any questions they may have. Maybe they’d be more talkative if I wore some cat jewelry?
Jan. 23: National Handwriting Day
It’s rare that anyone writes letters anymore. But with Heather Moore’s custom ID tag, handwriting can be preserved forever.
Jan. 24: National Compliment Day
Allia large cluster earrings
Everyone deserves to be showered with compliments every day. Small praises are enough to make someone’s day. A foolproof way to get them? Show-stopping jewelry.
Jan. 25: Opposite Day
Gottlieb & Sons circle and square earring jackets
I will not purchase any more jewelry for myself this month.
Jan. 26: Spouse’s Day
Tateossian limited edition meteorite cufflinks
Remembering to appreciate your spouse—daily—is important. Still, it doesn’t hurt to have an excuse to show them how much you value them once in a while.
Jan. 27: Chocolate Cake Day
I think Le Vian’s Chocolate Diamonds would pair nicely with a rich molten lava cake, don’t you?
Jan. 28: Fun at Work Day
Every day here is fun at work day. Still, if you need a little boost, this pendant from Steven Douglas might do the trick. How could you not have fun wearing this playful frog?
Jan. 29: National Puzzle Day
Rotenier puzzle pieces cufflinks
Get the ol’ brain working with a good old-fashioned jigsaw puzzle. I bet you’ve forgotten how fun they can be.
Jan. 30: National Croissant Day
Vive la France! Indulge your inner Parisian with a tasty croissant while wearing these Eiffel Tower–esque earrings from Sethi Couture.
Jan. 31: Inspire Your Heart With Art Day
A visit to an art museum can be an adventure, with so much to see and admire. Display some art of your own with a piece from Michou, which calls its jewelry “art to wear.”
Whew! You made it through the month of January! I hope you enjoyed celebrating life’s little pleasures with some sparkle.
