You know the saying about flowers for spring—since the 2006 hit film The Devil Wears Prada, you’ve probably heard it ad nauseam. You may have heard it so much, in fact, that it’s become even less original than the concept it’s complaining about—florals for spring.
A groundbreaking theme it might not be, but can you imagine springtime without flowers? What would that even look like? We just go from bare branches to green leaves? Unimaginable. The season’s new buds are reinvigorating, helping us reclaim that zest for life that we tend to lose sometime between New Year’s and St. Patrick’s Day.
But if you were, for any reason, suffering from floral fatigue, the Poppy collection from Jade Trau allows you to have your carrot cake and eat it too.
Inspired by the Poppy flower but taking on a more abstract appearance, the collection falls perfectly in line with some of the most in-demand styles today. “When I decided to do this flower-inspired collection, I wanted to make sure it still stayed close to the aesthetic of the brand,” says brand founder and designer Jade Trau. “Our goal is to always stay true to being a classic diamond jewelry concept, and what’s more classic than a cluster? So, I totally agree that this is a bit of a riff on a flower—it’s a series of clusters with our signature gold border, eponymously named!”
Poppy is named for Trau’s late grandfather, who would have been 100 at the time of its release. “I always knew I was going to have a Poppy collection, so I’ve been looking and thinking about these flowers for a long time,” says Trau. “I just love the entire flower. The stems are amazing—how some are super straight and some weave around or droop over like a candy cane even while they are buds. I love the buds of the poppy as well, they have this thick green protective layer. And then the vibrant flowers themselves, of course—the crinkled paperlike petals look like something only Mother Earth could come up with. I think the asymmetry and irregularity of the flower is what inspired me to work on this collection that has four cluster silhouettes, all mosaicked together to create this floral-inspired collection that really still feels intrinsically Jade Trau.”
The collection—comprising rings, earrings, ear cuff, bracelets, necklaces, and charm—has pieces available in 18k yellow, white, or rose gold, and some with a two-tone option.
Poppy was officially released Thursday, and more pieces are in the works to be showcased at June’s Couture show in Las Vegas, along with line extensions from some of Trau’s well-known collections, and new one-of-a-kind pieces. “I got to go back to my roots as a diamond buyer and look at parcel after parcel of interesting diamonds,” says Trau of the upcoming styles.
In addition to the reopening of her Southampton, N.Y., store for the season on Memorial Day weekend, Trau also teases some other developments. “We have a design collaboration launching in the next few weeks that I can’t say much about yet,” she says. “We have so much more in the works for the rest of 2022 and 2023! I feel undeniably fortunate to have the chance to be so creative right now, and I do not take it for granted for a single second.”
