5 Jade Jewels in the Spirit of the Lunar New Year

If your Gregorian New Year isn’t off to the best start, don’t worry: there’s also Lunar New Year, which began on Jan. 22. Commonly celebrated in Asian countries, the Lunar New Year follows the lunisolar calendar and falls on the first new moon of the year, typically at the end of January. Like the Gregorian New Year, it also signals a time to come together with family and make wishes for luck and prosperity.

To strengthen these intentions, we’re looking to jade, a stone associated with new beginnings and good fortune and highly valued in Asian culture. Below, we’ve rounded up a few of our favorite jade jewels on the market—whether you’re celebrating the Lunar New Year or looking to add a hint of color (and luck!) to your jewelry collection. Happy Lunar New Year!

Sauer ring
Sauer Igapó ring in 18k yellow gold with 11.1 ct. jade and a 2.35 ct. prasiolite, $4,650; Moda Operandi

Beautiful, yes—but the best part about this stunner might be that with its purchase, the Brazilian jewelry house partners with Idesam to plant trees in the Amazon. Goodwill breeds good fortune!

Ananya bracelet
Ananya bracelet in 18k yellow gold with 80.45 cts. t.w. jade, 7.94 cts. t.w. malachite, 1.2 cts. t.w. diamonds, and 0.95 ct. t.w. crystal quartz, $6,140; Net-a-Porter

With more than 80 carats of jade, Ananya’s bracelet carries plenty of good vibes. Plus, it incorporates malachite, which is believed to add protection.

Sherman Field locket
Reversible photo locket (also shown at top) in 18k yellow gold with nephrite jade, $6,990; Sherman Field

A photo locket with room for two photos, Sherman Field’s nephrite jade pendant keeps loved ones particularly close. It’s made to order, so you can switch up the metal to either rose or white gold if yellow gold doesn’t float your boat.

Retrouvai ring
Retrouvaí Yin Yang ring in 14k yellow gold with jade and 0.6 ct. t.w. diamonds, $3,430; Net-a-Porter

With its Yin Yang jade, yellow gold, and diamond design, Retrouvaí’s ring adds balance to the equation.

Ginette earrings
Donut hoop earrings in 18k rose gold and jade, $980; Ginette NY

Aptly named Donut, Ginette describes these hoops as “the meeting of Asian tradition and the infamous NY pastry, the calming power of jade, the exploration of the circle shape. A good luck charm that shall never leave you.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
