J-BAR to hold meeting during JA Show

The Jewelers Board of Appraisal Review (J-BAR) has scheduled a meeting during the JA New York Show.

The meeting will be held at 11:00 am, Sunday, July 28, 2002, in room 1-D03 of the Jacob Javits Center. No RSVPs are necessary and all interested parties are welcome to attend, says JVC’s Executive Director and General Council, Cecilia L. Gardner. The meeting is another opportunity for people to learn more about the newly formed organization and hear from Gardner about the appraisal challenges that the industry faces on a regular basis.

“We’re reminding jewelers that each time they appraise they do take on a legal liability,” says Ms. Gardner. “We’re also encouraging them to get appraisal education and letting them know what J-BAR is all about. Many of those attending are those that do appraisals every day, yet have not been affiliated with an appraisal organization. Many have not had formal appraisal training to-date. These people, who wish to learn more and find out how to better protect themselves, are exactly our why J-BAR was formed.”

J-BAR was formed in 2001 with funding from a Jewelers Circular Keystone Industry Fund Grant. J-BAR’s objective is to promote easily accessible appraisal practice education, to act as a clearinghouse for resolving disputes involving appraisal issues and to monitor compliance with sound appraisal practice.
