IRS Requests Examiner Training From JVC

The Internal Revenue Service has asked Cecilia L. Gardner Esq., president and chief executive officer of Jewelers Vigilance Committee, to train IRS examiners on the complexities of the jewelry industry to prepare them to examine jewelers’ anti-money-laundering programs for compliance with the USA PATRIOT Act.

Gardner said in a statement that JVC would "train IRS examiners about commonly used, legally compliant methods of doing business in the jewelry industry." She noted that many jewelry businesses, especially small family businesses, operate in ways that IRS examiners may not have encountered before.
