The Active Academy International Gold Summit took place recently at the Swiss Hotel in ?stanbul, Turkey. Participants included Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet ?im?ek, Turkish Jewellery Association president ?mam Alt?nba?, World Federation of Diamond Bourses president Avi Paz, Kaloti Jewellery (Dubai) general manager Tarek El Mdakka, and ?stanbul Chamber of Jewellery president Alaattin Kamero?lu.
Alt?nba? noted that world demand for gold was 2,500 tons in 2009, and Turkey, with demand of 300 tons, was among the top five countries. He also said the Turkish jewelry sector accounted for more than 10 billion dollars of business and continues to grow.
