Infographic: The State of Women-Owned Businesses

According to the National Association of Women’s Business Owners, 10.1 million firms are owned by women—50 percent or more—and those firms employ more than 13 million people and generated $1.9 trillion in sales as of 2008.

That’s a lot of women being awesome, and it’s no surprise to me after getting a chance to meet the talented female entrepreneurs in the jewelry industry.

The stats that stood out to me in this infographic were that 87 percent of women business owners thought that website design and maintenance was most valuable to the company’s bottom line, while 75 percent and 66 percent believed social media marketing and email marketing were the most important, respectively.

However, only 44 percent said that social media marketing and SEO were the future of small business marketing. I’d be eager to hear from our readers why that number is so low, and what female entrepreneurs think is the future of small business marketing.

I don’t know about you, but if 81 percent of female business owners feel optimistic about their business in the coming year, I feel a lot better about this country’s economic situation.

What stands out for you?
