Heartbreaking! Seriously … heart … breaking.
Away From Her actually wrecked me for a time after I saw it.
If you haven’t seen it, it is out on DVD now. Here’s the trailer:
My BFF, Monica, and I went to see ”Away From Her,” one night while in Cleveland and faught so intensely over it in the parking lot of the theater that we decided, for the good of our friendship, that we needed to turn around and go see another movie. [ed. note: Also, Monica was driving and I was trapped.]
We ended up seeing Waitress …
… and not to take anything away from Keri Russell, but I just could not get over Julie Christie’s performance.
As it turns out, neither could the Screen Actors Guild, which awarded Christie the honor of Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role.

Not to be outshined by the other red carpet walkers, Christie accepted her award in platinum earrings, necklace, and ring by Neil Lane (shown below).

Now, understated sophistication is always appreciated, but I am rooting for Christie to not only take the award at the Oscars, but also to play up her standing in the dress and jewelry department. You’re a winner Julie and (at the risk of sounding, well silly) winners wear dresses! And the Neil Lane necklace was barely visible.
I honestly think she needs to pull rank with her stylist come Oscar time. I know that you’re quite fit Julie, but through some weight around, for the good of your fans.
Also, I will just say that the pieces are all beautiful individually, that can’t be argued against, but all together they’re a bit too matchy-matchy. I would’ve been fine with two pieces, but all three together are a bit much.
But that’s just me.
