If you want to get to know Meghna Biswas and Zome Fine Jewellery, she recommends you consider one of her favorite quotes from master architect Mies van der Rohe: “We believe that God is in the details, and nothing is decorative without purpose.”
Biswas is an interior designer as well as the founder of Zome—hence her love for great architects—and she feels the two careers are similar. “I often say, ‘I design jewelry the same way I design spaces—around emotion, expertise, and memory.’
“Jewelry to me is wearable architecture. Every proportion, mechanism, and transition is carefully considered,” says Biswas.

Like the spaces that interior designers and architects create, Zome jewelry is built with form, function, and a bit of transformative magic, she notes. Its adaptability is one hallmark of her jewelry philosophy—a Zome piece can evolve with the wearer, the moment, and the mood. Rings convert to pendants. Simple studs transform into chandelier earrings or get elevated with jackets. A pair of earrings can be split up and worn in multiple ways.
Zome’s designs often include big gemstones, such as (clockwise from top left) the 13.7 ct. golden citrine in the Nira ring, the 7.1 ct. aquamarine on the Aquarelle ring, and the Safira ring’s 9.8 cts. of multicolored sapphires.
“A Zome piece should evoke the same wonder as walking into a remarkable space. Whether it’s a hotel, a theme park, a residence, or a piece of jewelry, my intention is always the same: to create something that feels unique, immersive, and unforgettable,” says Biswas.
She grew up in India, where jewelry was omnipresent at weddings, holidays, and other celebrations. Biswas says her family valued culture, craftsmanship, and meaningful objects—to them, design carried history, memory, and emotion.
“I remember being fascinated by gemstones—their depth, color, and presence,” she says. “And by how jewelry marked moments in time. That understanding of jewelry as something enduring stayed with me.”
As a child, Biswas loved making things, working out ideas through her hands. She got experience in a range of art mediums, including pastels, watercolors, and charcoal. She also trained in multiple Indian dance forms, which taught her rhythm, balance, and storytelling.
At England’s Nottingham Trent University, where she majored in interior architecture and design, Biswas says she learned to think holistically about proportion, light, and how people emotionally experience a space.

After graduating in 2006, Biswas joined London-based developer Tracwest as an interior architect for its bespoke ultraluxury private residences. In 2007, she moved to the United Arab Emirates and worked for IFA Hotels & Resorts in design management for its properties on Palm Jumeirah, an island in Dubai.
She served six-plus years with IFA, and subsequently held a design position with Dubai Parks, where emotion and memory-building were key in helping design large theme parks, Biswas says. She later joined the Red Sea Development Company in Saudi Arabia, working on luxury resort destinations.
In 2022, she returned to Dubai and became director of interior design for Dubai Holding, and she still manages the design of its luxury hospitality portfolio.
She founded Zome in 2024 to explore her interest in jewelry and use her creativity on a more intimate scale. Bringing her lifelong love of color, symmetry, and math to work with gemstones, she creates what she calls sculptures rather than accessories.
For her company’s name, Biswas mixed the first two letters of her daughter’s name (Zoey) and her own, to reflect her desire for leaving a legacy and offering something deeply personal to her clients.
“Additionally, zome in architectural terms refers to a type of geometric structure known as a zonohedron, used in the construction of geodesic domes. This reflects my approach to jewelry design—structural, thoughtful, and influenced by geometric and organic forms,” Biswas explains.
“Interior architecture taught me that design is never just visual. It’s experiential. That mindset continues to guide everything I create today,” she says.
