Moon Rings, Skull Necklaces, Star Pendants: Jewelry for Hot Witch Fall

Share

Between the Hot Witch Fall aesthetic and the jewelry around the movie Practical Magic 2, witchy vibes, moody autumn colors, and pumpkin spice are filling the air and our social-media feeds.

While Hot Witch Fall is hardly new—the trendy term was coined in late 2019 or early 2020 in response to Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer”—it coincides perfectly with the fall equinox on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Add in the (sort-of positive and mostly negative) buzz around the recent release of the Sandra Bullock–Nicole Kidman sequel about sister witches, and you have every reason to pull out your black cat earrings, moon-inspired rings, and star pendants.

The movie itself had its share of magical jewelry from Josephine Bergsoe—is there anything spookier than Bergsoe’s Memento Mori skull necklace, worn by Joey King in the film? Its opening events included jewelry from brands such as Bulgari and Jessica McCormack. And Awe Inspired got the licensing for its own Practical Magic collection.

Belladona pendant awe
The Awe Inspired Practical Magic 2 the Belladonna Vial Collector Necklace ($475) takes its pretty yet potent design from Atropa belladonna, a poisonous flower with protective energy.

Awe Inspired said when it debuted the collection that its pieces are meant to be in conversation with the world of the Owens sisters. It uses symbols such as ravens, belladonna, spell books, and dandelions in metals with carved gemstones, with each piece “carrying the mythology of a family persecuted across three centuries for magic they refuse to surrender,” said Max Johnson, Awe Inspired cofounder and CEO, in a release.

Practical Magic was one of the first films to treat feminine intuition as power rather than ornament,” he continued. “Translating that mythology into pieces women actually wear was the most natural collaboration we’ve stepped into. Every charm in this collection has a story the Owens women would recognize.”

JCK rounded up some of our favorite seasonally appropriate jewelry. So cue up your Concrete Blonde or Florence + The Machine. Pull out your sweaters and fleeces. Prepare some spiked cider or midnight margaritas. And get your jewelry cases ready for an Owens sister fall.
