How fun is this Georges Chakra dress?
Last year’s Best Actress Winner and this year’s presenter for Best Actor, Helen Mirren was seen in H.Stern’s Hebe Earrings with more than 18 cts. t.w. of fancy cut diamonds set in 18k Noble Gold (valued at $600,000) and Floral Ring with more than 10 cts. t.w. of diamonds set in 18k White Gold (valued at $1,700,000).
Mirren’s stylist George Bloodwell notes “The final touches are the most important and because this dress had so much bling I knew a necklace wouldn’t work and that I needed the perfect earring and ring combination and I found that with H.Stern.”
Mirren also carried a Swarovski clutch by Beverly Hills designer Kathrine Baumann to complement the gown’s diamonte sleeves.
Did I say that I loved this dress! Now, I heard some rumblings by television fashion commentators on how “women of a certain age are concerned with covering their arms,” and how this was a great dress for that specific purpose.
First of all, where’s your Oscar buddy? Women of a certain age, bah!
Why isn’t it just a great dress because it is beautiful? Maybe I’m crazy, or just overprotective, who knows? But I thought that the sleeves were a fun addition to a classic and bold dress. I would, however, argue that because of the ornate detail of the sleeves that the jewelry played second fiddle and seemed more like an afterthought. And H.Stern should never come off as an afterthought.
Love the look? Hate the look? What do you think?
