In late March, Hearts On Fire unveiled its new Dream collection, a range of diamond jewelry designed for everyday wear, at an influencer-studded event in Los Angeles, at Just One Eye, a concept store widely hailed as one of the country’s most influential retail tastemakers.

JCK popped by to catch up with Rebecca Foerster, president of Hearts On Fire North America, and chief creative officer Yunjo Lee.

Lee is based in Connecticut, where she lives in a farmhouse with her artist husband. That’s where she designed the collection, drawing on the mysteries of the cosmos to create an elegant and minimalist range of rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets set in 18k yellow and rose gold. The pieces pay tribute to the universe and the limitless power of imagination it evokes.

The brand also used the event to unveil its new 30th-anniversary global campaign, “What’s Your Signature?” Shot in Copenhagen, “the campaign positions each piece as an extension of the wearer, with the brilliance of each diamond reflecting her strength, authenticity, and individuality, mirroring the precision and perfection that define every Hearts On Fire creation,” according to a company statement.

Below, we share Lee’s takeaways about what sets the Dream collection apart.

On what inspired her

“The collection is inspired by the poetry of outer space. I have this fascination with the galaxies, the planets, and that sense of infinite possibilities. The movement, the light—those were really the ingredients for this collection. We always start with our diamonds. It is so much about their brilliance and radiance. I thought it was a perfect story to bring.”

On how she chose the forms to embody those concepts

“I really wanted to bring something that feels very sculptural, bold, and contemporary and invite everyone to experience the diamond in a modern way. The setting is actually quite unique, and it’s very much the characteristic of the collection. Each diamond is set within this orbital form shape that’s voluminous and that invites this play of light from all angles. And on the back of the setting, there is a pierced star motif, something that only the wearer would know. So the collection is not just about sparkle, but it actually carries a meaning, the poetry of it.”

On the collection’s surprise element

“When it comes to the Dream collection, what’s so unique about it is that a lot of the pieces are actually convertible. I really wanted to speak to that modern woman who is more than one thing. The versatility was really, really important.

“The earring jackets can be worn in three different ways. The Eclipse earring, for example, can be worn as a circle, or you can wear it as a straight shoulder-duster. Same thing with the pendant—the large Eclipse pendant, you can actually wear it as a circle, but you can also wear it straight. The length changes and the partial chain becomes a bracelet as well.”
