Hancocks Spotlights a Giuliano Diamond Necklace With an Unexpected Backstory

Hancocks London has named a circa-1900 Giuliano diamond fringe necklace its Jewel of the Month for August—a particularly fitting choice given Hancocks’ historical connection with the design house.

The necklace has more than 9.5 cts. old brilliant–cut diamonds, set into seven articulated openwork gold-backed silver panels as well as in the gently curved line from which they suspend. It is secured with a concealed tongue-and-box clasp and comes in its original fitted case. Hancocks has priced the piece at £95,000, approximately $125,900 at current exchange rates.

Giuliano is a name that’s highly regarded in the antique jewelry market. It was founded in London by Carlo Giuliano after he’d emigrated from Naples, Italy, in the 1860s, and became a Victorian-era force in Revivalist jewelry, producing pieces influenced by ancient and archeological sources. Giuliano attracted royal patronage and, Hancocks said, was “loved” by Pre-Raphaelite artists.

“Giuliano jewels are rare treasures,” said Amy Burton, creative director at Hancocks London, in a statement. “Ones such as this necklace—fully diamond-set—are even rarer.” Most Giuliano pieces incorporated colored stones and enamel along with diamonds.

By the time this necklace was made, the business had passed to Carlo’s sons, Carlo and Arthur. But going back further in Giuliano’s history adds a layer of provenance interest. Before establishing his own shop at 115 Piccadilly, Carlo Giuliano retailed his work through established London jewelers, among them C.F. Hancock, the firm that became Hancocks London.

So the company selling this necklace in 2026 was also selling Giuliano’s work more than 160 years ago! The jewel is available now at Hancocks London, 62 St. James’s Street.
