At an awards event that’s perfected the art of multiple costume changes (last night’s notable quick-change artists were Alicia Keys, J.Lo, and Lady Gaga), you can expect that the jewelry showing is going to be relatively strong.
And at last night’s Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, it most definitely was. Music’s A-listers walked the red carpet—and tore up the stage—in a slew of big-gem, high-design jewels.
By the time it was all over, the only thing that felt as long as our list of stunning jewels was the amount of time we’d been parked on the sofa watching the three-hour-plus telecast (while chowing salty snacks and posting Instagram Stories, naturally).
You can check out our long list of the night’s best jewelry looks on our Instagram feed—click on the Grammy’s Highlight. But below, we’ve distilled the show’s bling-y jewelry parade down to our favorite five looks.
Let us know what your favorite jewels/jewelry styling moments were—in the comments below or on Instagram!
Cardi B swanned onto the red carpet in a gravity-defying vintage-1995 dress from Thierry Mugler designed to evoke a clamshell. The Grammy winner for Best Rap Album wore gorgeous earrings featuring 24 cts. t.w. diamonds from Gismondi 1754. But all you could really see was pearls—multiple strands of them wrapping her topknot, neck, and waistline. Apropos, considering she was dressed as a glam clam. Was it over the top? Oh, yeah. But that’s why we loved it.
Fresh-faced (and always makeup-free!) Grammy host Alicia Keys pulled off multiple costume changes—but we loved the curve-hugging red dress and beautiful Bulgari necklace and earrings she wore on the red carpet, preshow.
Lady Gaga paired her chic Celine silver strapless dress with a Tiffany & Co. necklace and earrings that reportedly boasted a combined 100-plus cts. of diamonds.
Grammy winner (for Quincy, a documentary about her dad, Quincy Jones) Rashida Jones in a Ralph Lauren dress and stunning yellow gold Cartier Cactus cuff with chrysoprase and lapis lazuli.
Janelle Monae’s yellow gold Tiffany & Co. earrings and rings matched the industrial vibe of her amazing headpiece/hat—a confection topped with a mess of yellow gold safety pins.
Honorable mention: Beyoncé protégé’s Chloe x Hallee wore incredible oversize white metal hoop earrings during their performance. We couldn’t find a close-up, but you can see them (and their earrings) here.
