Google Glass is a distant memory
Google product manager of Android Wear Jeff Chang recently told media outlet The Verge that Google will be introducing two new “flagship” smartwatches in the first quarter of next year.
The watches will launch the Android Wear 2.0 platform. Chang told The Verge that Google “collaborated with the manufacturer” on the watches. He wouldn’t name the manufacturer but hinted that the company has created watches for Android Wear in the past.
Google will announce new and existing partnerships with device makers at both the CES show in January and at Baselworld later in the year.
Despite the slow growth of wearable devices, Chang told the outlet that Google is “quite optimistic” about the prospects of smartwatches. “This is a marathon, not a sprint,” he said. “This category of product is here with us to stay.”
