Given the #timesup tenor of the event, it may be gauche to go on out about the 2018 Golden Globes red carpet but there’s no denying it: Those black dresses were a fantastic backdrop for some incredible jewelry.
Emeralds were the gem of choice for many of the attendees, modeled to jaw-dropping effect on Big Little Lies’ Zoe Kravitz, who paired her Yves Saint Laurent column gown with Columbian emerald earrings—130 carats’ worth—by premiere jeweler to the stars Lorraine Schwartz.
That Schwartz’s earrings were framed in black jade reminded me that the combination of a bright, luscious green with black makes for quite a compelling color story when it comes to jewelry design. Think: jadeite and black onyx, or (smaller) emeralds with black diamonds, or emeralds set in blackened gold.
