I’m always keen to show some hearts around Valentine’s Day, and this year I’m highlighting a single design from JCK editor favorite Gigi Ferranti.
Yes, it’s a perfectly chic, graphic spin on the time-honored shape, but it’s more than that: This gem-studded little morsel is actually part of a larger collection she plans to debut at JCK Las Vegas 2020 (look for her booth in the Rising Star section).
“My new hearts are a blown-up version of my logo motif in 3-D,” says Ferranti. “I’ve been using the design as a gallery in some of my rings and pendants. When I did sapphire heart pendants, I used it as a puffed back gallery, to give the design extra dimension. So with the new hearts, I borrowed this idea to make a puffy, three-dimensional design and added a mix of sapphires, diamonds, and rubies to the center for a pop of color. The stones are set in blackened rhodium, for a vintage feel. I think it’s a perfect retro but modern piece to layer with what will be trending in fashion this spring and summer.”
“When I design a collection I make a fashion board of what styles will trend for the upcoming seasons,” says Ferranti.
For her new collection, Ferranti was inspired by a variety of spring/summer 2020 fashion looks, including menswear vests, spirit-of-the-’60s prints, disco collars, polka dots, tiered skirts, hot pants, and feathers.
“Without giving too much away, a common component in the collection will be repeating lines. I will use bigger diamonds, a lot of color, and some whimsical pieces that will all play nice together.”
