GIA to host two career fairs

The Gemological Institute of America’s will be hosting a Jewelry Career Fair in New York and California.

This year’s 13th annual Jewelry Career Fair will be held July 25 in New York at the Jacob Javits Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and October 17 at the Institute’s world headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The people that we hire as a result of Career Fair are excited about the gem and jewelry industry – they want to make a difference,” said Mary Todd-McGinnis, vice president of Ben Bridge Jeweler in Los Angeles. Ben Bridge Jeweler is one of approximately 50 firms that regularly recruit at this event. Others that participate at one or both locations typically include Bulgari, Chanel, Christie’s, David Yurman, Henry Dunay Designs, Lux Bond & Green, Tiffany & Co., and Zale Corp.

The event features panel discussions and career counseling with many of the jewelry industry’s leading executives and noted experts in areas such as jewelry sales, manufacturing, and design.

Jewelry Career Fair was founded by GIA and The 24 Karat Club of Southern California. Employers interested in participating should contact GIA’s Career Services office at 800-421-7250, ext. 4195. Job seekers wishing to attend can call GIA’s Jewelry Career Fair hotline at 800-421-7250, ext. 4100, visit www.gia.edu (which also includes job-seeking tips) or e-mail careerfair@gia.edu. Admission is free to job seekers.
