Get Signatured Brings a Personal Touch to Its First Retail Location

Share

Get Signatured’s first retail location offers a space where women can find community, learn about jewelry trends, and support woman- and Black-owned businesses, according to the Louisiana-based brand’s three owners.

The store opened in August at 11445 Coursey Blvd. in Baton Rouge. Get Signatured’s three partners—Deanna Bynog, Jessica Matthews, and Patnisha Williams—are all Louisiana natives, so it was meaningful for them to set up shop in their home state.

Timing was important too: The grand opening took place during National Black Business Month, highlighting the Get Signatured owners’ efforts to boost the number of Black women working in the jewelry industry and the presence of minority-owned businesses in Baton Rouge.

Get Signatured has been an online business for three years, and the owners say they wished to meet their customers in person. “It feels surreal and also amazing to open a storefront where our customers can shop for their jewelry and accessories and feel seen,” Williams says.

The company was originally known as the Signature Collection, and customers were asked to use the phrase #GetSignatured when they posted about its personalized jewelry on social media. So when it came time to open a brick-and-mortar location, the name Get Signatured felt like the right fit.

“We started with custom jewelry, and there’s only so much you can do if you’re only online. We wanted to get to know our clients better, and having a store lets us get to know what they like,” Bynog says. “If we don’t have something they’re looking for when they come in, we can create it for them.”

In an example of its responding to customer demand, Get Signatured added clip-on earrings after in-store customers whose ears aren’t pierced asked for them to be stocked. “We want to have that kind of personal relationship and cater directly to our customers,” Bynog says.

One of Get Signatured’s best-selling items is the nameplate necklace, a personalized item that can be costly at other jewelry stores and websites, Matthews says. “It is a privilege to be able to fill in the gap by offering custom items for our community with unique names without the hefty price tag,” she says.

The Get Signatured store hosts special events such as “Sip and Shops” around Louisiana State University and Southern University football game days and regularly holds permanent jewelry pop-ups.

“They can come in, have a glass of wine, enjoy some refreshments, and get our permanent bracelets when they’re here for a weekend trip,” Bynog says. “It’s a great bonding experience.”
