Geneva-based jeweler-to-the-stars, Chopard, is outfitting dozens
of celebrities on the red carpet this week during the 63rd International
Cannes Film Festival. Among them is Spanish model Eugenia Silva, who dons
a piece from the brand’s 150th anniversary line called Animal World
Collection, an homage to creatures cute (bear cub) and common (bee).
As for Silva, she somehow managed to snag one of Chopard’s
most unusual collection offerings: the Ram necklace. Fashioned out of fine
pearls and sparkling gemstones, the necklace looks just like a male sheep–right
down to its shaggy beard.
The craftsmanship is lovely (I saw it in person in Basel this year), the wearer is, too, but the
subject matter leaves me a little curious, as in just because you can make
something doesn’t necessarily mean you should.
I like animal-inspired jewelry (particularly little charms and pendants)
just as much as the next gal, but a big ram necklace–really?
