Gerry Gewirtz Dies

Very sad to hear this news about one of the first fashion editors at JCK, who was an early force behind the Women’s Jewelry Association and the now-defunct Executive Jeweler magazine ..

Geraldine (Gerry) Gewirtz, 89, died suddenly and peacefully at
her Manhattan home, July 3. The widow of prominent surgeon, Dr. Eugene
Friedman, she became a pre-eminent journalist in the jewelry, watch,
fashion and table top fields.

Remembers JCK’s Bill Furman, who worked with her in the 1970s: “She was one of the most incredible women in the jewelry business. She taught me a lot, and her sense of humor, wit and dedication to fashion were an inspiration. She will be missed.”

UPDATE: Linda Dunay emails:  “Gerry Gewirtz was my mentor and dear, dear friend, she was a jewelry industry legend – once the groundwork was laid to develop Womens
Jewelry Association the initial board of ten suggested that we draft Gerry as
WJA’s first President.  Gerry was a great leader and moved the newly formed organization into the industry spotlight.  In later years I have had the privilege of being her friend… Gerry will be missed by everyone she touched. Gerry lived life to its fullest and has the most amazing family to carry on her legacy.”
