Gem-A Names New ‘Journal of Gemmology’ Editor-in-Chief

The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has appointed editor, geologist, and gemologist Brendan Laurs as the new editor-in-chief of The Journal of Gemmology.

Laurs, former editor and technical specialist at Gems & Gemology, started his tenure on Sept. 1. He replaces Roger Harding who had edited the journal for the last 19 years.

Gem-A also announced that the Swiss Gemmological Institute SSEF would be giving the publication a “new look” in 2014.

“This is an exciting new chapter in the history of The Journal of Gemmology,” said Gem-A CEO James Riley in a statement. “In answer to demands of our members, we will be returning to quarterly format and are committed to retain production of a hard copy.”

The next issue of The Journal of Gemmology will be available through Gem-A and the SSEF in January 2014.
