Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, has created a new course for jewelers who want to make their businesses more ethical and socially responsible.

The industry term is Corporate Social Responsiblity (CSR), and the course is called CSR for Jewellery Professionals. It is a six-lesson online course in partnership with Branded Trust Assurance Systems, a company that provides tools for businesses to track their Corporate Social Responsibility, and with the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation, the education arm of the World Jewellery Confederation.

“The CSR course is the first of a suite of ethical solutions for the jewellery industry,” said Gem-A’s ethics manager, Vivien Johnston. “Gem-A is changing the landscape, making this subject accessible and moving from the conceptual debate to the real-world application of ‘best practice.’ These are thoughtful and inclusive programs that are relevant within a business context.”
