Gabriela Hearst Debuts High Jewelry at Sotheby’s New York Sale

Share

In a special collaboration with Sotheby’s, Gabriela Hearst—founder and creative director of her eponymous luxury fashion house—has designed a convertible pair of multicolor earrings exclusively for tomorrow’s High Jewelry sale in New York. Proceeds from the pair, estimated at $60,000 to $80,000, will benefit Amazon Frontlines, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the rights and lands of Indigenous peoples in the Amazon.

Hearst’s earrings, called Alpha and Omega, mark her auction debut and her first-ever high jewelry creation. Each earring features a contrasting color scheme: Alpha combines an emerald and blue sapphire with white diamonds, while the Omega links a ruby and pink sapphire with brown diamonds.

The earrings have detachable elements—in addition to full drops, they can be worn as studs, two-stone earrings without the diamonds, or even as pendant necklaces using the accompanying platinum and gold chains.

As part of the Sotheby’s partnership, Hearst has also curated an edit of 10 pieces in the sale. She selected the mix of vintage and contemporary jewels to reflect her “honest luxury” philosophy—a commitment to craftsmanship, durability, and beauty.

Hearst’s edit includes a Van Cleef & Arpels suite, JAR fruit-shaped earclips with sapphire and spinel, a pearl strand with 3.78 ct. blue diamond (estimated at up to $1.2 million), Hemmerle ivory and diamond earclips/pendants, a remarkable 3.27 ct. fancy vivid pink diamond ring, and other designer and diamond jewelry.

Frank Everett, vice chairman of Sotheby’s jewelry, said in a statement that Hearst “brings a profound sense of purpose and modernity to the world of high jewelry.” The Dec. 9 auction will be held in the landmark Breuer Building, 945 Madison Ave., during Sotheby’s first week of luxury sales at its new global headquarters.
