Fruit Salad & Rock Candy Confection-Style Jewelry

Exuberant bursts of color are just the thing this season. See how exciting combinations of gemstones and other materials have captured the fancy of the fashion world.

In a photo spread in the February issue of InStyle entitled “Rock Candy,” jewelry expert Marion Fasel writes: “Irresistible clusters of diamonds, sapphires, amethysts, and other dazzling gems will satisfy any craving for sweets.” The sapphire, enamel, and sterling silver rings pictured above are all from MCL by Matthew Campbell Laurenza.

A diamond, sapphire, ruby, emerald and 18k black gold necklace pictured in the InStyle photo spread is from Lorraine Schwartz, a celebrity red carpet favorite for her bold use of colored gemstones. The issue also features earrings of multicolor gemstones from de Grisogono and Solange Azagury-Partridge and a ring of brightly colored swirls from Van Cleef & Arpels, all deserving of more than a peek.

The March 2012 issue of Marie Claire pictures a close-up of the colorful gem-encrusted face of a watch from Dior Timepieces.

A current ad for Bulgari features a bright multicolor necklace along with a Serpenti wristwatch and stud earrings.

A recent ad for the Tamara Comolli fine jewelry collection includes a charm bracelet of bright multicolor gemstone dangles.

A current ad for David Webb pictures a selection of bright enamel and gemstone pieces.

There are plenty of multi-hued choices in costume jewelry as well. The February 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar spotlights a bright necklace from Paris-based jewelry designer Shourouk Rhaiem, who “turns costume into couture.”

Bright dangly earrings from Dannijo and Erickson Beamon are pictured in the March 2012 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, accompanied by the comment: “Shelve those trusty diamond studs in favor of these impossibly sweet but stylishly off-kilter costume drops.”

A retro-style necklace of bright multicolor beads from LenoraDame.com is described as “the only accessory you’ll need with a simple scoopneck top” in the March issue of Lucky.

In the December 2011 issue of Redbook, Deborah Lloyd, president and creative director of Kate Spade New York explained how to energize a wardrobe. Among her tips: “When it’s party time, throw on… ‘Chunky jewelry. I’m to wear my crystal kaleidoscope necklace with everything this season. I like how it makes a statement but isn’t too formal.'” The Kate Spade New York necklace she mentioned is pictured along with a less expensive option from Fantasy Jewelry Box.

Finally, appearing on the cover of the March issue of Marie Claire, here is actress Eva Mendes in an extraordinary bodysuit adorned with multicolor “gems” from Dolce & Gabbana.

As I write this blog post, I look forward to seeing the bejeweled bursts of color that will grace the attendees of this Sunday’s Academy Awards. Will any new trends be spawned? Stay tuned!
