From A to Zirconia

Swarovski’s 120-year history of expertise in precision cutting has been characterized by an unwavering dedication to excellence in creativity and innovation. In 1965, Swarovski turned its know-how beyond crystal production to embrace the manufacture and supply of meticulously cut genuine gemstones and created stones. Then, in 1976, Swarovski opened a new chapter in its history by being the first to offer designers machine-cut cubic zirconia—at the time, a completely new but very promising material for the jewelry industry.

In 2010, Swarovski revolutionized its cutting process for this created stone by adopting the Gemological Institute of America’s rigorous standards for grading diamond cut quality. The resulting Pure Brilliance Cut, with its diamond-like brilliance, became the centerpiece of Swarovski’s Pure Brilliance Concept for zirconia, which now includes classic Zirconia Diamond Cuts and striking Zirconia Diamond Colors.

Exciting innovations continue to enhance the zirconia success story. The Swarovski Zirconia 120 Facets Heritage Cut, created to commemorate company founder Daniel Swarovski, celebrates its 120th anniversary this year. With one precisely cut facet for each year of Swarovski’s history, these stones are technically and optically in a class of their own. The Swarovski Zirconia Puresse Cut, with its precisely rounded profile, and the Swarovski Zirconia Pentagon Cut—ideal for designing star formations—complete the new cuts trio. As for colors, making their debut are Swarovski Zirconia Fancy Light Blue, a subtle blue, and Swarovski Zirconia Red Dark, a deep red reminiscent of precious gemstone colors. Both are created with the patented Thermal Color Fusion (TCF) process, which utilizes absolutely no irradiation, making it safe for the consumer and the environment. All new stones feature the signature Swarovski Zirconia laser engraving that speaks of authenticity and the highest quality.

Stay tuned for the next installment of the Swarovski Zirconia story.
