Share

Freeman’s is offering “pieces for every collector” in its last jewelry auction of 2025, taking place today in New York, says April Matteini, the auction house’s senior vice president and head of jewelry.

The Important Jewelry live sale is focused on high-carat diamonds, rare gemstones, and signature pieces from elite jewelry houses, including Graff, Bulgari, and Cartier. Freeman’s also draws from multiple distinguished private collections, including the estates of Canadian model and actress Dayle Haddon, Chicago civic leader Maureen Dwyer Smith, and Joan S. Kanof of New York City.

The auction’s top lot, estimated to bring $250,000 to $350,000, is a diamond ring from Graff with a 13.11 ct. center stone. Three additional rings with diamonds of significant size lead the auction: a 17 ct. round brilliant-cut mounted in platinum (estimate of $150,000 to $200,000); a 12.32 ct. round brilliant-cut, flanked by two trillion-cut diamonds, also set in platinum (estimate $100,000 to $150,000); and a 10 ct. oval stone on a gold band encircled with around 1.35 cts. t.w. round and baguette diamonds ($80,000–$120,000).

Ring in platinum with 2 ct. unheated cushion-cut Burmese ruby and round and single-cut diamonds, estimate $30,000-$50,000

Among colored stones, a 2 ct. cushion-cut Burmese ruby ring is of particular note. The ruby, set on a platinum ring with diamonds, is certified with no evidence of heat treatment, making it a rare and highly collectible item in today’s market. Other colored stone standouts include a Cartier art deco Giardinetto brooch with diamonds, ruby, emerald, and sapphire and a Tiffany & Co. “Soleste” ring with 4.36 ct. paraiba-type tourmaline and diamond halo.

Haddon’s collection, notable for its refined, modern aesthetic, features such key pieces as Van Cleef & Arpels platinum “Snowflake” earrings with 5.5 to 6 cts. round diamonds, estimated at $30,000 to $50,000, and several important works by Boucheron, including a pair of diamond and yellow gold earrings and a distinctive bicolor gold, rock crystal, and emerald cuff bracelet.
