Fred Weber Wins Shipley Award

Fred E. Weber, chairman of Weber Jewelers in Dayton, Ohio, has won the American Gem Society’s 2012 Robert M. Shipley Award, its highest honor.

Weber received the award April 27 at the organization’s Conclave in Miami.

Weber is a veteran of Mayor’s Jewelers in Dayton, Ohio, and has owned Weber Jewelers since 1960. He was also a member of the board of directors for both the American Gem Society and the AGS Lab. He is active in his local community, serving as a city commissioner for Dayton, heading the board of Wright State University, and chairing a local hospital system for 18 years.

“I am absolutely floored,” Weber told attendees. “I always dreamed I would be honored in this away because I hold the AGS in such esteem. I can think of a lot of people who I would have thought would win the award this year. The very last person I would have thought of was myself.”
