Francis J. Murphy, Retired Jeweler, 90

Francis J. Murphy of Pottsville, Pa., died Nov. 6. He was 90. Murphy was the second-generation owner of Murphy Jewelers, with stores in Pottsville and Hamburg, Pa. 

Murphy’s son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Kim Murphy, the firm’s third-generation owners, now run the business, and the fourth generation—their son and daughter Sean and Mallory Murphy—are also involved in the business.

He was born December 2, 1917 in Pottsville,  son of the late Frank J., and Emma Mootz Murphy. He was a graduate of Pottsville High School and attended watchmaker school in Minersville.

He served with the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, Phillips and Jones Rod and Reel Club, Catholic War Veterans Post 1051, Pottsville and was an active participant with the honor guard of the Pottsville Joint Veterans Council.
