Fossil to make Marc Jacobs watches

Fossil Inc. has made a license agreement with fashion apparel and accessories firm Marc Jacobs International to develop and distribute women’s and men’s watches under the Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs labels.

The Marc Jacobs watches will debut in fall 2005 with limited distribution. They’ll be followed in 2006 by a Marc by Marc Jacobs collection. The watches will be Swiss-made and available at Marc Jacobs boutiques and select department stores domestically and internationally.

The Marc Jacobs watches will combine classic elements and luxurious materials, says a Fossil announcement. The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection will be more lighthearted in design, offering a wide selection of styles.

The Marc Jacobs company, founded 20 years ago, is an international brand with a global network of stores. It produces women’s and men’s ready-to-wear and accessories including shoes, handbags, leather goods, sunglasses, scarves, and fragrance.

Fossil, based in Richardson, Texas, designs, develops, markets, and distributes a number of fashion watches under its own brands (Fossil, Relic, MW Michele, and Zodiac) and under license with a number of prestigious brands (Emporio Armani, DKNY, Diesel, and Burberry). It also offers small leather goods, belts, handbags, and sunglasses under the Fossil and Relic brands, jewelry under Fossil and Emporio Armani, and Fossil apparel. Its products are sold in department stores and specialty retailers in 90 countries and on its Web site, www.fossil.com.
