Joe Bernstein, former senior vice president of Kay Jewelers, died on Sept. 8 in Naples, Fla., of complications from pneumonia.
Bernstein spent more than 40 years in the jewelry industry, beginning his career at The Jewel Box in Johnson City, Tenn., in 1955. He also held positions at Zales in Indianapolis; Gray’s Jewelers in Tulsa, Okla.; and J.B. Hudson Jewelers in Minneapolis.
When Kay was acquired by Sterling in 1990, Bernstein moved to Best Products, spending the next four years as vice president of merchandising.
He leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Julie Klement, two children, and five grandchildren.
