First ‘Women in the Know’ conference to be held in February

The Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA) in conjunction with the Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA) will hold the first “Women in the Know” Conference for professional women in the jewelry industry to be held Friday, Feb. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. The business conference will bring together women from all facets of the fine jewelry and related industries. Mini-seminars will focus on professional development, personal branding and promotion, business and personal finance, and networking.

Noted futurist and author Edie Weiner is the keynote luncheon speaker. Her company, Weiner, Edrich, Brown, Inc., advises clients ranging from the U.S. Congress to many Fortune 500 members on issues of marketing, product development, strategic planning, investments, and advertising. She has co-authored three books with her partner, Arnold Brown: Supermanaging (1984), Office Biology (1993) and “Insiders’ Guide to the Future (1997). She has been a guest lecturer at Wharton, Harvard, Brown, among other universities and has served on numerous boards, including CompUSA, First UNUM Corp. and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. She will be sharing her thoughts with the jewelry audience and will also take questions.

As a special event, JCK Editor-in-Chief Hedda Schupak will moderate a panel discussion on “Can Women Run The Jewelry Industry?” featuring panelists Esther Fortunoff, Fortunoff’s and Linda Goldstein, Goldstein Communications, along with additional leading industry women, to be announced.

The day offers an outstanding lineup of professional speakers:

Hillary Harris – a prosperity coach, intuitive strategist and transformation speaker who will address the all-important issue of money and how to negotiate like the big guys.

Diane Danielson – author of TableTalk: The Savvy Girl’s Alternative to Networking will speak on the art of communicating and networking.

Suzanne DeVries – founder of Diamond Staffing Solutions, Suzanne will talk about career development and putting your best foot forward in your career.

Diane Allen – is a professional coach, and organizational development consultant with over 20 years experience who will address Building Top-Notch Relationship, a workshop for interpersonal communications.

Rhea Van Hook – an insurance agent specializing in the jewelry business, Rhea will help her audience learn the basics of insurance and what every woman should know about this important subject.

The “Women in the Know” planning committee is also offering a roommate service to attendees. Women traveling from out of town can contact others attending the conference to find a roommate to share hotel costs.
