Finlay fourth-quarter same-store sales down 3%

Finlay Enterprises Inc., the top U.S. jewelry retailer in department stores, on Tuesday said its sales at stores open at least a year fell 3% in the fourth quarter, Reuters reported.

Total sales fell to $388.1 million in the 13-week period ended Feb. 2, from $420.5 million in the 14-week period a year earlier. Excluding sales from the extra week last year, total sales fell 6.2%, Finlay said.

New York-based Finlay, which operates more than 1,000 Finlay Fine Jewelry locations at stores including May Department Stores Co., said total sales for 2001 decreased to $962.8 million from $1 billion in 2000, which included an extra week, Reuters reported.
