The family of Dominic Hofert is planning a memorial mass for the Kenmore, N.Y., jeweler, who has been missing since the night of Feb. 2, according to the Buffalo News.
Police believe the third-generation jeweler fell into the Lower Niagara River, after discovering a pair of footprints leading to the riverbank, the newspaper said. A subsequent search of the area has not located a body, and Hofert is officially classified as a missing person. Authorities do not suspect foul play.
Hofert’s store, Hofert Jewelers, was closed following his disappearance but has now reopened. Following that, the local Ken-Ton Chamber of Commerce tweeted its support of the business.
“Let’s keep Hofert Jewelers busy this season!” it said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Lewiston Police Department at 716-754-8477.
