Established’s Nikki Erwin on the Jewelry Men Want

Los Angeles–based Established Jewelry has that perfect combination of cool and expressive designs that make a woman feel sexy, with substance that makes her feel, well, established. Designer Nikki Erwin’s creations are edgy yet refined, bold yet enduring, a bit cheeky at times, but still somehow proper—most likely owed to their weight in gold.

As more men seek to express themselves through jewelry, it makes perfect sense that Established would have what they’re looking for. Talismanic and/or potentially sentimental pendants, suave chains and bracelets, and statement rings are what’s on the menu for men, in addition to a selection of brooches (my personal favorite, the Gas Station Name pin, is a no-brainer).

JCK had a few questions for Erwin on the current status of men’s jewelry and what to look for this holiday season.

What inspires your line of men’s jewelry?

I love to see a man in jewelry. I think that there is a stigma that jewelry is mostly for women. When I see a man in jewelry, what it translates to me is confidence. I started to make men’s jewelry for confident males who understand the luxury and love of adorning oneself.

Which category do you find is the most popular in men’s jewelry? What are your best sellers among that audience?

Our oversized rings are showstoppers—we specifically wanted to make noticeable rings with edgy but streamlined motifs. The solid gold sunglasses chains and solid gold toothpicks have also been best sellers—things you wouldn’t usually imagine come in gold.

What’s your take on the recent high-profile men’s jewelry trends? Do you think they’re here to stay?

I think men in earrings and chokers is feeling a lot more common now. Although I’m seeing the style broaden, which I love, I don’t believe bling ever left, at least in my eyes. As far as I’m concerned, bling is always the option.

A customer is looking to purchase the perfect holiday gift this year for their significant other—what’s your recommendation?

The men that gravitate to Established are men looking to make a statement. Pieces that are sizable and significant such as our Zodiac ring, Eagle necklace, and Bottle Opener ring.
