The red carpet at last night’s Emmy Awards in Los Angeles could have doubled as a design showcase for jewelry’s most established red carpet brands, including David Webb, Fred Leighton, Lorraine Schwartz, and Harry Winston.
The diversity (and sheer creativity) of jewelry looks adorning Hollywood’s top TV stars made for exciting jewelry-watching and went a long way in helping celebs and their stylists carve out singular style personas.
Read on for the jewelry trends that dominated TV’s biggest night.
Diamond drop earrings in platinum and white gold were by far the most popular jewelry look on last night’s carpet—but styles varied. There were a few sleek-and-modern looks, including Elisabeth Moss’ big-stud jackets; some simple, spare styles (Jessica Biel’s delicate diamond chains); and a fair number of vintage and estate-inspired looks, including Sarah Paulson’s Art Deco shoulder-dusters.

Less common last night were necklaces, which was a bit of a surprise considering how many good ones popped up during 2017’s awards season. But the few fashion-forward celebs who did wear them, wore them very well.

Classic diamond-studded cuffs were a popular look with veteran carpet-walkers, including Viola Davis, Nicole Kidman, and Julie Bowen.

Emeralds led the pack when it came to colored stones last night, with stars including Jane Fonda, Lea Michele, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, and Emmy Rossum, among others, donning major emerald earrings. But overall it was a colorful carpet, stone-wise. Reese Witherspoon wore cabochon sapphire and diamond earrings from David Webb. And it was a treat to see the gorgeous Sonequa Martin-Green from The Walking Dead in a suite of gold and turquoise vintage pieces from Fred Leighton—a major jewelry moment.
