Duchess of Windsor’s Cartier Bracelet Sells for $7 Million

An onyx and diamond panther bracelet created in 1952 by
Cartier Paris sold for $7 million at a Sotheby’s London auction Nov. 30. The sale set a new
record for Cartier at auction and also for any bracelet at auction.

The auction included the sale of 20 jewels and objects formerly in the
collection of the Duchess of Windsor, a collection originally auctioned 23
years ago. The sale brought a total of $12 million.

“It has been an immense pleasure to bring once again to sales these jewels worn
by a woman who was a leader of fashion and the epitome of elegance and
sophistication for her generation and beyond,” said David Bennett, chairman of
Sotheby’s Jewellery in Europe and the Middle East,
in a statement.

A ruby, sapphire, emerald, citrine, and diamond flamingo
clip mounted by Cartier Paris in 1940 also sold for $2.6 million.
