Double Up on Wristwatches & Leather Cuffs

The wrist is very much the focus of attention this season, and the trend of wearing stacks of colorful bangle bracelets shows no signs of waning. One variation on the trend of wearing multiple bracelets together on one arm replaces bracelets with wristwatches or incorporates watches into the mix.

In the May 2011 issue of Marie Claire, the combination of an Hermes watch and bracelet are shown together on one wrist, worn with a dress from Versace.

The May 2011 issue of Glamour combines two watches from Movado with two bracelets from Marc by Marc Jacobs. The swimsuit is from Burberry Sport; the beach bag is from Hermes.

The April issue of Elle magazine used dual watches and watch and bracelet combinations through much of a fashion spread on spring’s bright colors. In the initial photo, the model wears a pair of calfskin-strap steel watches from Hermes and large hoop earrings from Dolce & Gabbana with a top, skirt and belt from Loewe.

In the second photo from Elle, the model wears a pair of Hermes cuffs and a leather-strap gold watch from Cartier with her ensemble from Lanvin. The earrings are the same hoops from Dolce & Gabbana.

In the third photo from Elle, the model wears a striped jacket and skirt from Prada, worn with a halter from Lisa Marie Fernandez, with a watch from Movado combined on one wrist with a bracelet from Roxanne Assoulin for Lee Angel.

What all these stylings have in common is that both pieces worn together lie flat and snug against the wrist. The Glamour styling is the exception, putting two more dimensional bracelets in between the two wristwatches and thereby holding them in place.

Whereas many combinations of bracelets and watches can damage one or all pieces as they bump against each other, these flat, soft leather choices present much less potential for damage. In addition, these stylings don’t produce the same jangle or clatter as a stack of bangles. Although that can be a delightful sound, it is generally inappropriate for a workplace environment. The soft, snug wrap of doubled up wristwatches and leather cuffs presents a stylish option.
