Trend Directions in Action

The international jewelry industry depends on a reliable indicator of the future desires of consumers. Tastes change, and identifying the latest trend directions and altering their evolution is the Holy Grail for designers and retailers. Swarovski has been giving the sector unprecedented access to Gem Visions, its pioneering trend and design service, for more than a decade. For this year’s edition, the in-house team has again worked with a select group of industry experts to define sociocultural megatrends and distill them into five major trend directions. These choices are then coupled with the gemstones and created stones that best illuminate those concepts.

The 2015 trend directions promise a vision of modernity modulated by a deep desire for equilibrium: New Horizons references folkloric traditions and looks to crisply cut, transparent gemstones, such as citrine, rhodolite, and spessartite. Blurring the boundaries between science and art, Zero to Infinity loves icy moonstone, rock crystal, lapis lazuli, and marcasite. Hommage celebrates classical opulence with precious sapphire, emerald, and ruby. Creatures is a phantasmagoria of flora and fauna that revels in multicolored opals and vibrant peridot and topaz. And the ardent Intimate finds its match in pale sapphires, pink pearls, and champagne and pastel yellow diamonds and zirconia.
