DirecTV Wants Diamond-Business TV Series, Report Says

Satellite TV service DirecTV has issued a straight-to-series order for Ice, a drama set in the Los Angeles diamond district, according to Deadline.com.

The industry trade calls the series a “large-canvas character drama set in the treacherous and colorful world of diamond traders in downtown Los Angeles. Within the twisted labyrinth of memorable characters walks Alvy Simon, the diamond whisperer, whose genius for seeing the charisma in a stone will make him both a god and a target in this unique milieu.”

The project was cowritten by Ronald Bass, who penned the Oscar-winning screenplay for Rain Man, and Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis, it adds. Alcon Television Group will produce.

This is at least the third attempt in recent years to develop a TV drama based on the diamond industry. In 2011 and 2008, AMC reportedly looked into developing series based on the diamond trade, one of which was also called Ice.
