It’s been a “hold all calls” couple of weeks thanks to the 2018 Winter Olympics, mainly because of the figure skating competitions, and the spangled spectacle they bring to each nightly broadcast. From Johnny Weir’s accessories extravaganza to Adam Rippon’s incredible wit, and from Evgenia Medvedeva’s exquisite Tano jumps (and eye makeup) to the general parade of jeweled bodices, leaving the couch has not been an option.
With the ladies set to compete in their short programs tonight (tomorrow morning in PyeongChang), I find myself wanting to revisit the uncommon allure of diamond slices.
Whether dotted with salt-and-pepper imperfections, or icy and opaque with feathery scratches that recall the surface of the Gangneung Ice Arena’s Olympic rink after a head-spinningly gorgeous skate, the diamond slice jewels below make the idea of skating “on thin ice” infinitely less dangerous. With absolutely zero risk of a wardrobe malfunction.
