Diamond Empowerment Fund to Honor Botswana at 2014 JCK Las Vegas

The Diamond Empowerment Fund will honor president Ian Khama and the government of Botswana at the Diamonds in the Sky Gala during the 2014 JCK Las Vegas show.

Khama and the government of the Republic of Botswana will receive the group’s 2014 Global Diamond Industry Achievement Award for their “global leadership and contributions to democracy, sustainable economic development and the growth and expansion of the international diamond industry,” according to a DEF release.

“We are thrilled to honor the country of Botswana at Diamonds in the Sky Las Vegas,” said DEF president Phyllis Bergman.

Previous Diamonds in the Sky honorees include De Beers Group chairman Nicky Oppenheimer and Standard Chartered Bank group chief executive Peter Sands (2010) and Chow Tai Fook Group chairman Cheng Yu-tung and Anglo American chief executive and Cynthia Carroll.

The 2014 Las Vegas gala—which will include networking, a live auction, music, and performance—will take place in the Four Seasons ballroom on Thursday, May 29, at 7 p.m. For more information on the event, visit diamondempowerment.org.
