Diamond Empowerment Fund Holds Event in London

The Diamond Empowerment Fund will
hold its first international fund-raising event, DEF London: Diamonds in the
Sky, Nov. 8 at Altitude 360.

The evening’s honorary chairman is international entrepreneur and
philanthropist Russell Simmons, co-founder of DEF.

The benefit and auction is in aid of DEF’s mission to raise
awareness and funds to empower economically disadvantaged people in African
nations where diamonds are a natural resource.

During the event, Nicky Oppenheimer, chairman of De Beers,
and Peter Sands, group chief executive of Standard Chartered, will be honored
for business leadership, and their commitment to corporate social
responsibility and health and educational empowerment for the benefit of
Africa.

The program will also include remarks by alumni from DEF
beneficiary schools African Leadership Academy and CIDA City Campus, both
located in Johannesburg.

The event will raise money through a live auction of lots of
diamond jewelry, travel packages, and celebrity experiences. An online auction
will coincide with the London event Nov. 2–30 on www.charitybuzz.com.
