Diamond and gem auction includes rare pinks

A 28-ct. purple-pink diamond will be among the jewels being auctioned off by Sotheby’s and HSBC Private Bank to select audiences in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The auction will be held in Geneva on May 18.

The color pink is very rare in diamonds and the size and weight of this diamond are considered to be exceptional, the auction house and the financial institution said. According to Sotheby’s records, this is the largest diamond of its kind ever to appear at auction. It is expected to fetch $7 million.

Other pink diamonds in the sale include a 15-ct. piece and an 8.1-ct. pear shaped stone.

A number of perfect white diamonds are included in the collection, with a pear shaped stone weighing 53 cts. and another diamond of 30 cts.

Alongside the rare diamonds, the collection includes some exceptional precious stones and pieces by the world’s leading jewelry houses, including a 43-ct. ruby.

This is the third time Sotheby’s and HSBC have worked together in the UAE.
