Diamond Empowerment Fund Announces Millennial Proposal Contest

The Diamond Empowerment Fund  (DEF) debuted a contest today targeting millennial couples whose proposal involved a diamond engagement ring.

The “Real Stories. Real Diamonds. Real Impact” contest aims to bring positive stories behind diamonds to the fore by asking entrants to submit a video—with a maximum length of 60 seconds—in which they share their proposal story and talk about what their diamond (or diamonds) means to them.

Videos will be judged by digital media influencers Tracey Ellison (@thediamondsgirl), the founders of @greenweddingshoes, and Scott and Collette Stohler (@roamaroo). Combined, the trio of has more than a million followers on Instagram.

The winning couple will be flown to Botswana, one of the largest producers of gem-quality diamonds in the world, to “see firsthand the impact diamonds have had on the country,” according to a statement from DEF. And of course to “share their experiences through social media.”

The “Real Stories. Real Diamonds. Real Impact” contest was made possible through a grant DEF received from the JCK Industry Fund.

DEF president Anna Martin, senior vice president of GIA, said in the same statement, “Educating the younger generation on the good diamonds do and inviting them to engage in this narrative will help boost consumer confidence—and ultimately demand—for diamonds.”
