De Beers has chosen five new companies to be sightholders for the present Supplier of Choice contact period—but it won’t provide their names.
The company said the new clients’ names will be added to its directory on March 31, when the new contract period begins. Knowledgeable sources said that a majority came from India.
The current contract period runs through 2015. This brings the current number of DTC sightholders to 82.
The applicants were first chosen under De Beers’ new “dynamic” sight system, which gives companies that consistently win auctions at its Diamdel subsidiary the chance to become DTC clients.
All applicants must live up to De Beers’ Best Practice Principles, said the company, and were chosen based on prior applications.
