De Beers Announces Synthetic Melee Screening in India

De Beers has announced that its International Institute of Diamond Grading & Research (IIDGR) will offer high-volume synthetic melee screening in India in October 2015.

The new service is described as “low-cost, high-volume,” but specifics have not yet been released. The technology will be showcased and demonstrated at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair beginning Sept. 18.

“Our investments in the development of innovative diamond technologies enable us to support the industry in addressing some of its major challenges,” said Jonathan Kendall, president of IIDGR. “Launching a new low-cost, high-volume service in India for screening synthetic melee and testing referrals will support both trade and consumer confidence, as more businesses will be able to use our technology to provide greater assurance to their customers.”

The IIDGR was founded by De Beers to offer services and expertise to the diamond industry. It has locations in the U.K., Belgium, and India.
