Diamonds Do Good (DDG) has found its next president-elect, Marcus ter Haar (pictured), who will move into the position on Jan. 1, 2026.
He was unanimously approved by the board of directors of DDG, a nonprofit that celebrates the positive impact of natural diamonds in communities around the world.
Current president-elect Pete Engel will become Diamonds Do Good’s president on Jan. 1, taking over from Kathy Corey, who has held the role since January 2024. This succession plan ensures DDG moves forward with continuity and an eye on the future, the board said in a statement.
Ter Haar, who has worked at Okavango Diamond Company and the Diamond Trading Company in Botswana, previously served as co-chair of DDG’s Beneficiary Committee, helping guide the organization’s global grantmaking strategy and partnerships.
He is a board member of GIA and a trustee of the Lady Khama Charitable Trust, and holds a degree in economic development from the University of East Anglia and a master’s in international relations from the University of Reading.
DDG officials described ter Haar as a prominent figure and respected voice in the global diamond industry who, like the organization itself, focuses on the diamond sector’s contributions to national development, entrepreneurship, and youth empowerment.
As president-elect, ter Haar will support Engel’s leadership while preparing to assume the presidency in January 2028 and will work to expand DDG’s grantmaking, storytelling, and partnerships in Africa, India, and elsewhere.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue building on the legacy of leaders like Kathy Corey and Pete Engel,” ter Haar said in a statement. “Diamonds Do Good represents the authentic, purpose-driven stories of how natural diamonds uplift communities worldwide. I look forward to working with the board and our partners to amplify this message and strengthen our impact.”
“Marcus brings a wealth of experience, perspective, and heart to Diamonds Do Good,” Corey said in a statement. “His deep ties to Botswana and his commitment to sustainability and community development align perfectly with our mission of sharing how natural diamonds create positive impact.”
Corey is a former owner of Day’s Jewelers. Engel used to be president of Fred Meyer Jewelers and is now a business consultant.
