David Morrow, husband of Reinhold Jewelers founder Marie Helene Morrow, has died at the age of 88 after a battle with cancer.

The company announced on Facebook that the businessman, who at one time was president of the Albertson’s supermarket chain and in retirement collaborated with his wife at Reinhold Jewelers, died after battling cancer.

Morrow began his career at Albertson’s when he was just 18, working his way up to the role of president. He also chaired the Pueblo supermarket chain during the ’80s and early ’90s. The beloved husband, father, and grandfather grew up in Idaho, where he maintained a ranch.

Puerto Rican news outlet Magacín notes that he was “passionate about the business world in general,” so in retirement committed to running the Reinhold Group with Marie Helene. The company currently has 13 fine jewelry stores throughout Puerto Rico.

“It is with great heartbreak that we say farewell to the king of our heart,” Marie Helene Morrow told National Jeweler. “One of David’s last words were that he would always be around to see us…. There will never be a husband, father, grandfather, or great-grandfather as grand as he was. We will continue to cherish and remember him as we tell future generations of our family about him, so that his wisdom and love will continue to bless us for generations to come.”

Morrow is survived by Marie Helene; his children Kelly Morrow, Kristi Morrow, Regan Reinhold, Robin O’Neill, Sara Francesca Fisher, and Yael Reinhold-Lipnik; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Messages of love and condolence poured into the retailer’s Facebook page this week. Jewelry designer Saundra Messinger wrote, “Sending so much love to Marie Helene and the entire family. He was a kind and lovely man. So very sorry for your huge loss.”

While jewelry professional Rosana Otani noted, “Mr. Morrow was a gentleman and will be missed in our lovely industry.”
