Relative newcomer Swati Dhanak introduced her eponymous jewelry line in 2016—but she’s no stranger to the industry. Born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to a family of traditional goldsmiths, the art of crafting jewelry was instilled at a young age. So it’s no surprise that Dhanak’s work with metal is instantly captivating.

The New York–based fine jewelry designer recently debuted a new collection, and I’m pretty fixated on the earrings in particular (rings and pendants are accounted for in the line as well). Taken with the look of floating diamonds—the collection is, in fact, named Floating—Dhanak sets various cut stones in complementary settings: an arc of diamonds in circular drops, a fan of gold with diamonds tucked between its splayed bars.

You will primarily find diamonds in Dhanak’s collections, and Floating is no exception. “I tend to gravitate toward diamonds in my designs and in the jewelry I wear daily,” says the designer. “I experimented with a bit of color in my previous collection, Staple. If I were to use colored stones in the future, I think I would want to create some special, limited-edition pieces.”

My favorite of the assortment are the ladder-like creations dubbed Linear Floating earrings, pictured at top. I love the combination of the straight lines with the four different diamond cuts—round, princess, heart, marquise—all in a playful, glittering row.
